Summersalt is in full gear at White Oak Conference Center. Our FBC students are completely immersed into the camp spirit and for those of you that do not know what Summersalt entails, let me fill you in:
When we arrive on campus we are met by a dozen screaming college students who are excited that our students are here. They immediately start playing games and having fun with our students.
Every morning begins with some wake-up worship time followed by a great time of devotion and prayer. It is an awesome sight to see the whole camp ground covered with students reading Gods word and praying.
After the devotion time, students go to their small groups where they spend the morning being taught stories from the Bible.
This years theme is about ONE. ONE person, ONE moment in Time, ONE decision, and ONE action or inaction that will forever affect others. The biblical character that we are focusing on is David and his ONE moment.
The adults also have time of bible study where we learn the same thing as the students.
In the middle of the day students can choose what is called a PIC, Personal Interest Class. The classes deal with everything from dating to prayer. Then the students head to the water competitions, where they compete for spirit points and have a ton of fun getting wet.
The evening begins with a massive worship service where the students get to join in corporate worship with 500 other students. This is followed by a drama that reinforces the lessons they are learning throughout the week, as well as spurring some interesting conversation. The camp pastor, Lee Clamp, then preaches a powerful message aimed straight at the heart of teens, and on Monday night several dozen teens surrendered to Christ for the very first time!
When we get to the end of the day, we collapse in our rooms to regain our strength so we can begin the process all over again in the morning.
I know that was a little verbose but I wanted you all to get an idea of what we mean in the Student Ministry when we say camp.
